Turkish giants Trabzonspor have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign goalkeeper André Onana on loan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The deal is expected to cover the entire 2025/26 season, with only personal terms between the Cameroonian international and the Super Lig side left to be finalized.

Onana, 29, joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 in a high-profile deal worth around €55 million, as a replacement for long-serving goalkeeper David de Gea. However, his time at Old Trafford has been turbulent, with a series of high-profile mistakes in both the Premier League and Champions League drawing widespread criticism from fans and pundits.

Despite showing flashes of his shot-stopping and ball playing qualities, Onana has struggled to fully settle into Erik ten Hag’s system. Reports in England suggest United are open to letting him leave temporarily in hopes that regular playing time abroad will help him regain confidence and form.

Trabzonspor, who are pushing to re-establish themselves as serious title contenders in Turkey, see Onana as a marquee addition to strengthen their squad. The Cameroonian is expected to bring both European experience and leadership to the team.

If the deal is completed, Onana will aim to use his spell in the Turkish Super Lig to rebuild his reputation after a difficult period in Manchester. His move could also open the door for United to bring in another goalkeeper, either to compete with or replace him in the first-team setup.

This loan switch, should it be finalized in the coming days, would mark another twist in the career of a goalkeeper who has previously starred for Ajax, Inter Milan, and the Cameroon national team, and who will now look to relaunch his career in Trabzon.
