President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, today led Members of Parliament and invited guests in a moment of silence to honor citizens who lost their lives during the unrest and violence that erupted on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in the cities of Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Mwanza, and Songwe.
Speaking during the opening session of the 13th Parliament in Dodoma, President Samia also announced the formation of a special commission to investigate the incidents. She extended her condolences to the families of those who perished and expressed concern for those injured or who lost property during the unrest.
“The government has taken steps to establish a Commission to investigate what transpired so that we can understand the root causes of the problem. The report will guide us in pursuing dialogue aimed at reconciliation and peace,” President Samia said.
The President described the events as deeply saddening and prayed for the speedy recovery of all the injured. She also called on citizens who suffered property losses to remain patient during this challenging period.
