R. Kelly’s legal team has filed an emergency motion seeking his immediate release from federal custody to home detention, citing serious threats to his life and alleging misconduct by government officials. The motion, filed on Tuesday and obtained by Variety, includes explosive claims that federal authorities attempted to recruit a terminally ill inmate to murder the R&B singer while he serves a 30-year sentence in a North Carolina prison.
The filing features a sworn declaration from inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine, who claims officials offered him an early release in exchange for killing Kelly during his final days. According to Stine, he was told that Kelly and his attorneys were preparing to release damaging information, allegedly prompting officials to try to eliminate him.
Stine also alleges that officials tampered with attorney-client communications by snooping on private legal correspondence. He further stated that he was warned he would be charged with Kelly’s murder, but any evidence would be manipulated to ensure there was no conviction.
Kelly is currently serving a sentence for sex trafficking and other related charges. His legal team argues that the new revelations highlight not only a risk to his safety but also a broader pattern of government misconduct that undermines his right to a fair legal process.
