A team of engineers in Japan has set a new world record for internet speed, reaching an astonishing 1.02 petabits per second — that’s over one million gigabits per second. To put it into perspective, that’s 3.5 million times faster than the average internet speed in the United States.
Even more impressive, the breakthrough was achieved using fiber-optic cables similar to those already in use today, meaning such speeds could be more accessible in the near future.
At this speed, it would be possible to download the entire Netflix library in just one second, marking a major leap forward in global data transmission capabilities.
