The funeral of Liverpool football star Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 5, at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar in São Cosme, their hometown in northern Portugal.

Father José Manuel Macedo, parish priest of the Igreja Matriz, confirmed to PA Media that the service will begin at 10:00 a.m. local time (08:00 GMT). A wake was held on Friday at the Capela da Ressurreição, where family, friends, and members of the local community gathered to pay their respects.

Diogo Jota, 28, and his 25-year-old brother tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Thursday morning, July 3, in Spain. According to reports, their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout and burst into flames on the A-52 highway near Zamora.

Tributes have poured in from across the football world, with Liverpool FC, Portugal’s national team, and fans expressing deep sorrow over the shocking loss. Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also released a statement, mourning the deaths of “two young lives taken far too soon.”

A large turnout is expected at Saturday’s funeral as the city of Gondomar and the global football community come together to honor the lives of Diogo and André.
