Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement released by his personal office.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the statement read. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, the cancer is reported to be hormone-sensitive, which provides a viable path for treatment and management. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” the statement added.
No further details have been provided regarding the specific treatment plan, but sources close to the former president say he is receiving care from a dedicated team of medical professionals and is in stable condition.
This development marks a significant health challenge for the 82-year-old former president, who served from 2021 to 2025 and has remained active in public life since leaving office.
