The man who broke into rapper Eminem’s home on two separate occasions has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following convictions for aggravated stalking and first-degree home invasion.
Matthew David Hughes, 32, was handed two consecutive prison terms on June 17 -15 to 30 years for home invasion and 3 to 7½ years for stalking — totaling up to 37½ years behind bars. He will be eligible for parole only after serving at least 18 years.
Hughes first made headlines in April 2020 when he broke into Eminem’s Detroit-area home while the rapper was asleep. He reportedly threatened to kill the star and was later sentenced to probation. However, in August 2024, Hughes trespassed on Eminem’s property once again, leading to a second arrest and fresh charges.
The court also imposed a no-contact order and a 500-foot restraining boundary to protect Eminem from future encounters.
Prosecutors highlighted the severity of the crimes, emphasizing the importance of protecting victims from repeated harassment and intrusion.
“This sentence sends a strong message about the consequences of stalking and invading someone’s home no matter who they are,” said a spokesperson for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
