R&B star Chris Brown appears to have resolved a portion of his legal troubles stemming from an alleged nightclub assault — reaching a settlement with the man who sued him over the incident.

Abe Diaw, who filed a lawsuit against Brown in 2023, claimed the singer struck him multiple times with a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle during an appearance at TAPE nightclub in London. According to court documents filed on Friday, Diaw has now asked a Los Angeles County judge to dismiss the case with prejudice — meaning it cannot be refiled in the future, which typically signals a settlement between the parties.

It remains unclear whether any financial terms were involved in the resolution. Representatives for both Chris Brown and Abe Diaw have yet to comment.

In his original complaint, Diaw alleged that after being hit with the bottle, he lost consciousness, and while on the floor, Brown “ruthlessly stomped” on him, resulting in lasting injuries.

Though the civil case may be closing, Brown is still facing criminal charges related to the same incident. He was arrested earlier this year upon arriving in the UK for his world tour and was later charged with assault and possession of a weapon. The singer was released on bail and entered a not guilty plea in court roughly 10 days ago.

The case remains ongoing in the criminal court system.
