A devastating air disaster has struck India as an Air India passenger jet crashed just moments after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday. Authorities fear that all 242 people on board — including passengers and crew — have perished.

The aircraft, identified as a Boeing Dreamliner operating as Flight AI171, was en route to London when it went down shortly after takeoff. Emergency response teams rushed to the crash site, where at least 190 bodies have already been recovered from the wreckage, according to Indian officials.

The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time. Aviation authorities and investigators are working urgently to determine what led to the tragic incident.

“Our thoughts are with the families of all those affected,” an Air India spokesperson said in a brief statement. “We are cooperating fully with authorities in the ongoing investigation.”

This marks one of the deadliest air disasters in India’s recent aviation history. Further updates are expected as recovery operations continue and more information becomes available.
